Welcome back to our brand spankin’ new podcast Low-Carb Conversations With Jimmy Moore and Friends.     Jimmy,

    That was a great chat you had with Tom and Amy. This is probably more cynical than anything expressed in the podcast, but I think that the reason the USDA guidelines will never acknowledge the deleterious nature of excess carbohydrates is because there is too much economic interest vested in maintaining the myth that a substantial amount of carbs are good for you. After all, grains are heavily subsidized by the government, and hence when food manufactures take these grains, and repackage them into processed food, they get in return a high profit margin, since the raw ingredients in these foods (i.e. sugar, corn, soy, wheat, and rice) have already been paid for by tax dollars. Like so much else that is wrong with our government policies, all you really need to do is follow the money.

    So what Tom said was spot on. The average consumer, even a large group of consumers, is not going to combat this massive monetary interest, which governs our food policies, through a grass roots movement. What we simply must do is make organizations, like the USDA, not germane to the dietary discussion, by informing people of the truth. And in that task, all of you guys are doing a fantastic job, and I applaud you for it.

    Thanks so much for this podcast and addressing my question about stalling on weight loss! In analyzing my daily food intake I realized that I’ve let a few too many carbs creep in and so I will be “going back to basics” like y’all suggested…thanks!!

    I understand that having a low-carb diet is important, but is it possible for me to maintain such a diet if I am a collegiate athlete with a lot of demands on my body?

    • Great question, Mark! On my other podcast show I’ve interviewed many competitive athletes who are at varying levels of energy needs. If your activity is 3 hours or less, then you may do very well eating a low-carb diet that is high in fat, moderate in protein and low in carbohydrate. However, going beyond three hours of competitive athletics may require some carbohydrates to replenish glycogen stores. Head on over to my other podcast site and look up Jonas Colting, Ben Greenfield, Mark Pomery, and Kent Altena for a few examples of what I’m talking about.

    OK. I have been sticking to Low Carb “Clean Eating” and am not seeing, or feeling, anything. I bought Keto Sticks and they are only registering VERY light. How do people lose so much in such a short amount of time? I’m not looking to lose it all overnight, since that is not how I put it on, but I figured there would be more loss. Suggestions anyone???

    This is my first comment on your website Jimmy, but I would like to tell you I have listened to about 20 interviews already. So there must definitely be so many more people out there who are listening to your show but not commenting on how great you are. Hence- the silent majority.

    I love Tom Naughton. His movie, that I watched on Hulu in winter break when I was really bored, has changed my life. I would not be here or anywhere in the low carb paleo sphere without Tom. I am a student and have shared Tom’s doc and your great interviews with many teachers and students.

    Basically, you both have made a huge impact on my life and others.
